Denisha Cartwright had already recorded one all-time NCAA Division 2 performance this season on her home track at Myers Field House, with the Minnesota State star producing the fastest 300-meter race Jan. 26 at the Mark Schuck Open and Multi event.

But the mark Cartwright achieved Friday at the first Maverick Premier competition was one the Bahamian standout had been pursuing since arriving in Mankato following her transfer in 2021 from Central State in Ohio.

Cartwright equaled the Division 2 record in the 60-meter hurdles by clocking 8.05 seconds, matching the 2010 effort established by Adams State’s Indira Spence at the division indoor championship meet in Albuquerque, N.M.

She also improved on her No. 4 all-time ranking for the Bahamas.

Cartwright had run 8.07 twice last season, including at the Maverick Premier meet. She captured the Division 2 indoor title last year by clocking 8.11 in Virginia Beach.

Cartwright, who achieved the Division 2 all-time mark in the 300 with her 38.64 in January, had run 8.12 in the 60 hurdles Feb. 3 to prevail at the Iowa State Classic. She opened Friday by clocking 8.18 in the 60 hurdles prelims.

Cartwright also prevailed Friday in the 200 meters, clocking 24.00 for her fastest time this season.

She also ran 7.29 in the 60-meter dash Saturday to match Alexis Brown of Lenoir-Rhyne for the fastest Division 2 performance this season.

Cartwright has two more opportunities to secure the 60 hurdles record all to herself at Myers Field House, with Minnesota State playing host Feb. 16 to the Maverick Invitational and Feb. 23-24 to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships, before she competes March 8-9 at the Division 2 Indoor Championships at Pittsburg State in Kansas.
